FER2516 - Seasonal Customer Services Advisers/Check in Assistants – Kirkwall, Houton and Tingwall.
35 Hours per week (May – September 2025)
£31,826 (Including Distant Islands Allowance and 10% shift allowance)
We are looking to recruit three committed and enthusiastic individuals to become part of the Orkney Ferries Customer Service team based across our three sites.
These positions represent a challenging opportunity assisting in a range of duties including checking in vehicles and passengers prior to embarkation on the ferry, customer services, dealing with enquiries and taking bookings and details for the Ferry booking system and administrative support.
Candidates should hold a qualification at SCQF 5/6 i.e., SVQ2, National 5, Standard Grades, O Grade, Intermediate 2, SVQ3, Higher, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, or, where the essential qualification is not held, you should have a minimum of 2 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification.
Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the ability to establish good working relationships with all levels of staff and to provide a professional service to the public. With a busy workload you must be organised and able to work on own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines. Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills are essential for this role.
You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.

FER 2515 - SUMMER STEWARDS – 6 POSTS
Outer North Isles Services
Vacancies exist for 6 Summer Stewards for the forthcoming Summer season to serve on board Orkney Ferries vessels, primarily on the route above. Duties will be varied. The Rota for this is 1 week on/1 week off.
Certification required for this position is as detailed below, however training will be provided if a candidate does not hold any/or some of the certifications:
- STCW PSSR.
- STCW Elementary First Aid.
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques.
- STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course).
- Elementary Food Hygiene certificate.
Candidates must hold a valid ENG 1 medical certificate.
The salary scale is £24,460.00 plus DIA £2,859 per annum pro rata.
The Company operates a contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.
