General Purpose Deck Rating - FER2512

A vacancy exists for General Purpose Deck Rating/Purser to serve onboard Orkney Ferries vessels.

Duties will be varied between deck rating, ticket collector or cook as required, this post will require a high level of interaction with the travelling public.

You will be required to work where required on any of our fleet.

The Rota for this is 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, plus an additional 4 week’s annual leave per complete year served.

Certification required for this position is as detailed below, however training will be provided if a candidate does not hold any/or some of the certifications:

  • EDH certificate.
  • Valid ENG 1 medical certificate.
  • STCW PSSR.
  • STCW Elementary First Aid.
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques.
  • STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course).

Candidates should ideally also hold STCW Crowd Management, STCW Crisis Management and Human behaviour, STCW Passenger Safety Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity certification and Elementary Food Hygiene certificate but training for these can be provided for the successful candidate, if required.

The salary scale is £32,200 to £34,122 pa plus DIA £2,859, subject to qualifications and experience.

The Company operates a contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.

Chief Steward/Cook - ONI Services - FER2513

Outer North Isles Services

A temporary vacancy exists for a suitably experienced and qualified Chief Steward/Cook on our vessels serving the Outer North Isles.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced officers to fill this post. Applicants must hold as minimum:

  • Elementary Food Hygiene
  • Valid ENG1
  • Updated STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • Updated STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Advanced
  • Updated STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Updated STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Updated STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship

Ideally candidates should also hold the following, but training will be provided for the right candidate.

  • STCW Crowd Management
  • STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity
  • STCW Crisis Management and Human Behavior

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the company’s policies, including the Drug and Alcohol Policy which includes provision for random testing without cause.

The shift pattern will follow the rota of the Cook/Chief Steward position and will cover all three Outer North Isles vessels. This position will end on 31 October 2025.

The salary scale is £35,639 to £37,772 pa plus DIA £2,859, subject to qualifications and experience.
