Able Seafarer - ONI Services - FER2620

A permanent vacancy exists for a qualified Able Seafarer to serve on board Orkney Ferries vessels, on our Outer North Isles services. However, you may be required on other routes as required.

The Rota for this is 2 weeks on/2 weeks of plus an additional 4 weeks annual leave per complete year served. Minimum certification required for this position is:

  • Valid ENG 1 medical certificate
  • Certificate of proficiency as an Able Seafarer Deck Reg II/5
  • STCW PSSR
  • STCW Elementary First Aid
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course)
  • EDH certificate

Ideally candidates should also hold the following, but training will be provided for the right candidate.

  • STCW Crowd Management
  • STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity
  • STCW Crisis Management and Human Behavior
  • Elementary Food Hygiene

The salary for this post is £40,912, inclusive of DIA (currently £2,997).

The Company operates a contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.

Master / Trainee Master - REW Service - FER2623

A permanent vacancy exists for a Master to serve onboard Orkney Ferries vessels, primarily on the Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre service. However, you may be required to cover other routes as required.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced officers to fill this post. Applicants must hold as minimum:

  • Valid Masters STCW CoC or Boat Master License - Passenger Vessel Operations: up to 250 passengers within following areas: Cat D Kirkwall / Rousay

OR

  • STCW Certificate of Competency as Master 200GT / Yacht master Offshore commercially endorsed. Consideration will be given to candidates with a higher qualification
  • GMDSS ROC
  • Valid ENG1
  • Updated STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • Updated STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Advanced
  • Updated STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Updated STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Updated STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship

Ideally candidates should also hold the following, but training will be provided for the right candidate.

  • STCW Crowd Management
  • STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity
  • STCW Crisis Management and Human Behavior

The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant CAT D boat master’s license for the area and to carry up to 250 passengers within 6 months of being appointed in the position, if not already held.

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the company’s policies, including the Drug and Alcohol Policy which includes provision for random testing without cause.

Candidates must be prepared to arrange accommodation on Rousay when on duty shift.

The salary scale for this post is £51,133 to £55,024 pa inclusive of DIA (currently £2,997).

  • STCW Reg II/2 Certificate of Competency as Master 3000gt. Consideration will be given to candidates with a higher qualification and varying areas
  • GMDSS GOC
  • Valid ENG1
  • Updated STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • Updated STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Advanced
  • Updated STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Updated STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Updated STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship

Ideally candidates should also hold the following, but training will be provided for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the company’s policies, including the Drug and Alcohol Policy which includes provision for random testing without cause.

The successful candidate will be required to gain the suitable familiarisation and experience throughout the fleet to sail as master as required. This will involve trips outside of Orkney to deliver vessels to refit and attend vessels that berth overnight at their island of operation.

The salary scale for this post is £72,686 up to £76,892 pa inclusive of DIA (currently £2,997).

A vacancy has arisen for a Mate position on our Outer North Isle Services, however you will be required to cover on other routes as required. The Rota for this is 2 weeks on/2 weeks off plus an additional 4 weeks annual leave per complete year served.
