We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to become part of the Customer Service team within the Orkney Ferries offices.

This position represents a challenging opportunity assisting in a range of duties including customer services, dealing with enquiries and taking bookings and details for the Ferry booking system and administrative support.

Candidates should hold a qualification at SCQF 5/6 i.e., SVQ2, National 5, Standard Grades, O Grade, Intermediate 2, SVQ3, Higher, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, or, where the essential qualification is not held, you should have a minimum of 2 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification.

Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the ability to establish good working relationships with all levels of staff and to provide a professional service to the public. With a busy workload you must be organised and able to work on own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines. Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills are essential for this role.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.

Cook/Steward - ONI Service - FER2418

Outer North Isles Service

A vacancy exists for a suitably experienced and qualified Cook/Steward on our vessels serving the outer North Isles, however you will be required to cover on other routes as required. This is a permanent full time position. This post will require a high level of interaction with the travelling public.

Applicants MUST be in possession of the following certificates:-

  • Elementary Food Hygiene or higher.
  • Personal Survival Techniques.
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility.
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.
  • Elementary First Aid, Crowd Management.
  • Crisis Management and Human Behavior.
  • Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity.

The successful candidate WILL be required to hold valid MCA Medical Certificate (ENG1).

The current work rota is 14 days on duty followed by 14 days off duty with an additional 4 weeks holiday entitlement.

The salary scales are as per Company agreement:- Certificated = £34,787.00 + DIA, Un-certificated = £32,200.00 - £34,127.00 + DIA. The Company operates an optional contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.

Senior Technical Superintendent - FER2419

An exciting opportunity to lead the Technical Team at Orkney Ferries as Senior Technical Superintendent has arisen.

Orkney Ferries operates 10 vessels providing a life-line service to the inter islands of Orkney and this role would be to manage and provide suitable technical shore based support and resources to the Technical Superintendent, Engineer (Ship & Shore), Chief Engineers and other Engineering Sea Staff on the ferries along with providing technical support for the ferries shore infrastructure.

There will also be a requirement to assist with the implementation and maintenance of the ISM and PMSC’s Safety Management Systems, in areas related to engineering systems.

Applications are invited from candidates with either a valid STCW III/2 Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency with large vessel experience; or STCW III/2 Second Engineer Unlimited with /or without restricted Chief Engineers Endorsement and with passenger Vessel experience or Relevant Engineering degree and STCW III/1 OOW. Where applicable, training to gain the higher classification may be provided to the suitable candidate.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
